Light Peak — кодовое название новой технологии передачи данных по оптическому волокну от Intel и Apple. Технология может стать заменой всем существующим сегодня (и ещё разрабатываемым) [1] стандартам соединения различных электронных устройств из-за своих уникальных характеристик: дешевизны, миниатюрности и скорости передачи данных 10 Гбит/сек на расстояния до 100 метров. [2]

Корпорация Intel впервые продемонстрировала компьютер, использующий технологию Light Peak[3].

Передача данных в Light Peak проходит по оптическому кабелю на расстояния до 100 метров со скоростью 10 Гбит в секунду, что сравнимо со скоростью кабелей Fibre Channel и HDMI, в 3 раза быстрее eSATA/SATA 300, в 10 раз быстрее Gigabit Ethernet и более чем в 20 раз быстрее USB 2.0 и FireWire. В ближайшие десять лет Intel обещает увеличить скорость передачи данных по Light Peak до 100 Гбит/сек. [4]
