The River Doe Lea is a river which flows near Glapwell and Doe Lea. The river eventually joins the River Rother. [ [http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/leisure/countryside/countryside_sites/wildlife_nature/doe_lea/default.asp Derbyshire.gov.uk] ] The river historically had 1000 times the safe level of dioxins as reported in parliament. [ [http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm199192/cmhansrd/1992-02-13/Debate-9.html Hansard] [accessed 16 May 2008] The river flows through the former site of Coalite Chemicals near Bolsover, a former coke, tar and industrial chemical manufacturing site.
