Shelby Park is a large urban
park located approximately three miles (five km) east of downtownNashville, Tennessee , along theCumberland River . The park includes playgrounds, a dog park, [ [http://www.nashville.gov/parks/pdfs/dog/DogParksBrochure.pdf Metro Dog Parks] ] a baseball field, a 27 hole golf course, and a community center. The park is located between theLockeland Springs , Shelby Hills and Rolling Acres neighborhoods.The Nashville Park Commission acquired the initial land for the park in 1909,cite news|first=Kay|last=Beasley|title=Beautiful Shelby Park has colorful past|date=1987-02-25|work=Nashville Banner] purchasing convert|151|acre|km2 that had been previously used for an amusement park. Shelby Park officially opened on July 4, 1912. Today the park includes over convert|361|acre|km2 of land.
