Valvettithurai ( _ta. வல்வெட்டித்துறை) or VVT is a small coastal village on the northeast coast of the
Jaffna Peninsula inSri Lanka 's north. Its original name is Valvettithurai (val-vet-ti-thu-rai). It was here the LTTE leaderVelupillai Prabhakaran was born. The population is mainly hindu and some catholics. The main industry is farming and fishing.The town is near the river called
Thondaiman Aru . This is named after Karunagaran Thondaiman, a Chola minister who came to Sri Lanka to procure salt. The mouth of the river has the famousSkanda temple calledSelva Sannithy built in the 16th century. It has a spiritual connection with the southern most holiest place in Sri Lanka calledKataragama Temple.External links
