Zygmunt Kurnatowski

Zygmunt Kurnatowski (1778 in Pożarów - 1858 in Warsaw). He was a count and Polish noble of the Łodzia coat of arms. He was Major General of army of Kingdom of Poland.

Born into a family of devout members of the Polish Reformed Church. He was a participant of Greater Poland Uprising of 1806, after which he joined the army of the Napoleonic Duchy of Warsaw. The participated in of all of its campaigns. In 1810 reached the rank of the colonel. General from 1814 and the commander of a cavalry brigade. Fought to the end of the Napoleonic Army, then returned to the country and joined the Army of the Kingdom of Poland.

From 1823 commander of a brigade in the Reserve Corps. From 1828 aide-de-camp of the tsar of Russia Nicholas I of Russia, reaching the rank of a Major General. The ruthless performer of the orders of each authority even despite his own convictions. As the member of a Military Court opted for the condemnation of Walerian Łukasiński.

On the night of the start of November Uprising of 1830 he opposed the insurgents and only with the trouble avoided the fate of other generals. He swore an oath of allegiance to Polish nation and resigned from active duty.

On the defeat of the rebellion he briefly reentered Russian service, but into 1832 he was dismissed by the tsar. Buried in the Calvinist burial ground in Orzeszkowo near Poznań.
