Sutherland Trophy

Sutherland Trophy

Created in 1958, the Sutherland Trophy was awarded annually by the British Film Institute to "the maker of the most original and imaginative film introduced at the National Film Theatre during the year". ["1963 London Film Festival Programme", London: BFI]

It was named after the BFI's patron, George Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 5th Duke of Sutherland. The award took the form of a scultpure in silver by Gerald Benney. It was presented on the closing night of the London Film Festival.
