Originally, seven national social worker organizations agreed to become members. However, this new association was not officially founded until 1956 at the International Conference on Social Welfare in Munich, Germany.cite web|title =History of the IFSW |publisher =International Federation of Social Workers |date =November 23, 2005 |url =http://www.ifsw.org/en/p38000040.html |accessdate =2008-02-22]
