List of national anthem performers at the Super Bowl

The following is a list of performers who performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl.

Only four performers have done the national anthem at more than one Super Bowl: the Grambling State University Marching Band, the United States Air Force Academy Chorale [ [http://www.usafa.af.mil/superintendent/pa/factsheets/chorale.htm U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Choirs & Cadet Chorale Fact Sheet] ] , Aaron Neville, and Billy Joel. Those four performers have each done the anthem at two separate Super Bowls. No one to date has done the anthem at three or more Super Bowls.

Only one ASL performer has interpreted the national anthem at more than one Super Bowl thus far: Marlee Matlin.

The only performers to perform the national anthem in their hometowns were Anita Bryant (in Miami, where she lived at the time), Aretha Franklin (in Detroit), Al Hirt (in New Orleans), Neville (also in New Orleans), Beyoncé Knowles (in Houston), and Jordin Sparks (in Glendale, Arizona). Three other performing groups performed in their home metro areas: Diana Ross performed it in Pontiac, Michigan, which is a suburb of her hometown of Detroit; and the San Francisco Boys Chorus/San Francisco Girls Chorus performed in Stanford, California, which is in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Star-Spangled Banner was performed at every Super Bowl except for XI, when Vikki Carr sang "America the Beautiful" instead. In some recent years, the national anthem has been preceded by "America the Beautiful," and in very early years, the Pledge of Allegiance."
