Prenatal vitamins

Prenatal vitamins are vitamin supplements intended to be taken before and during pregnancy and during postnatal lactation.

Compared to a standard multivitamin, prenatal vitamins include an increased dosage of components that are known to reduce birth defects (such as folic acid)cite web |url=http://www.clevelandclinic.org/health/health-info/docs/2800/2801.asp?index=9754 |title=Prenatal Vitamins |accessdate=2008-01-01 |format= |work=] , as well as an increased level of calciumcite web |url=http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/prenatal-vitamins/AN01665 |title=Prenatal vitamins: OK for women who aren't pregnant? - MayoClinic.com |accessdate=2008-01-01 |format= |work=] and iron.cite web |url=http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1783699 |title=Compliance with prenatal vitamins |accessdate=2008-01-01 |format= |work=]
