World Youth Games

The World Youth Games was an international multi-sport competition for athletes 17 or under on the 31st December of the year of competition. Although intended to be held every four years, the only event was staged in Moscow, Russia in 1998 [ [http://www.gbrathletics.com/ic/wyg.htm World Youth Games ] ] .

In 2007, the IOC announced that they would be holding the Youth Olympic Games from 2010 onwards, with Singapore beating Moscow in the voting to stage the event [http://www.olympic.org/uk/news/olympic_news/full_story_uk.asp?id=2477] ]

The name "World youth games" has sometimes been used in the media to refer to individual sport championships for younger competitors, but not as their official title.
