Mexican War of Independence it was renamed as University of Mexico. It was closed in the years of 1833, 1857, 1861 and 1865, the main reason being that it was not well regarded by the liberals, who called it an example of cultural lag. During the French intervention, the University was reopened byMaximilian of Mexico and then closed for good. Scattered institutions, mainly civil colleges founded by the liberals and religious establishments outsideMexico City , continued without interruption. Some of those Institutions, like the Medicine School and the Royal School of Mining would later be reorganized in the newly created University by Justo Sierra in 1910, theUNAM .Notable alumni
