Building services engineering

Building services engineering is the engineering of the internal environment and environmental impact of a building. It includes mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, including:

* energy supply - gas , electricity and renewable sources
* heating and air conditioning (HVAC)
* water , drainage and plumbing
* natural and artificial lighting, and building facades
* escalators and lifts
* ventilation and refrigeration
* communication lines, telephones and IT networks (ICT)
* security and alarm systems
* fire detection and protection

It may influence the architecture of a building and is a significant influence on the sustainability and energy demand of a building.
