The James Martin 21st Century School

The James Martin 21st Century School

The James Martin 21st Century School was founded in June 2005 at the University of Oxford, England, and is named after its benefactor, James Martin, a technology writer. [Martin, James, "The Meaning of the 21st Century". ISBN1573223239.]

The focus of the School is on stimulating Oxford’s research, by giving the University’s scholars the "resources and space to think imaginatively about the problems and the opportunities that the future will bring." [ [http://www.21school.ox.ac.uk 21school.ox.ac.uk] .]

The school operates around a hub and spoke model, with a small administrative hub at the centre, responsible for distributing research outputs and ensuring there is interdisciplinary contact between the institutes.

The director of the institute is Dr Ian Goldin.

The school expands it number of institutes from 10 to 15 in October 2008. New research areas include cancer therapy, Stem Cells, Carbon reduction in Transport and study of Oceans.
