"Auntie Mame" is a 1958 film based on the novel of the same name, starring Rosalind Russell and directed by Morton DaCosta. The screenplay was adapted by Betty Comden and Adolph Green from the play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee and the novel by Patrick Dennis. The original music score was composed by Bronislau Kaper. A musical version of the story was released in 1974 starring Lucille Ball as the titular character.

Plot

The film stars Rosalind Russell as a flamboyant, mad-cap aunt of a young boy Patrick, who is left orphaned when his father dies. Left in Mame's care, Patrick is quickly introduced to his aunts' free-spirited and eccentric liftstyle. As Mame watches her young nephew grow into a man she attempts to rescue him from the stuffy, conventional lifestyle towards which he is heading.
