He represented his state for three terms in theUnited States Senate from 1937 until 1955, and served asgovernor of Colorado from 1933 until 1937 and from 1955 until 1957. He was born inScandia, Kansas , moved with his family toNebraska as a child, and started a farm in Colorado as a young man. He was lieutenant governor of Colorado from 1931 to 1933. He died inDenver, Colorado .He was perhaps best known for making a speech on the Senate floor criticizing the extramarital affair of actress
