Ballyhackamore

Ballyhackamore

Ballyhackamore (Irish; "Baile an Achaidh Mhóir", meaning "townland of the great (big) field") is an electoral ward of East Belfast. The ward was created for the first time in 1973, being carved out of the former Victoria ward.

As part of the review of local government in Northern Ireland, the ward is to be abolished with its electors moving to new wards of Knock and Connswater.

Ballyhackamaore has nonetheless become a "boom-village" area in East Belfast. Known for attracting a range of fine dining restaurants such as Alden's, Little Fat Buddha, Barista, Rouge Cafe, The Point Bar & Restaurant and Mandorin City, this area is a hive of activity during the evenings most nights of the week. An entertainment area in its own right. Ballyhackamore is also known as an estate agent paradise, with many of the leading agents competing with each other in the area. Due to high-standard office accommodation availability with the convenience of many services and good transport links on offer, Ballyhackamore is also popular with modern business relocations, such as that of internet specialists Brilliant Promotions, which has its Irish office base in the heart of Ballyhackamore village.
