Koodal Azhagar Temple

Koodal Azhagar Koil is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in the center of the city of Madurai, Tamilnadu, India. Koodal is another name for Madurai and Azhaghar means "The beautiful one", in Tamil. The temple is an ancient one and very close to the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple. It is one of the 108 divyadesams the holy abodes of Vishnu. The temple has three gopurams where the Lord here shows three postures, sitting posture and the other two are standing posture and lying posture where one has to climb the stairs. There is also a separate Sudarshana Chakra Sannidhi adjacent to Thayaar Sannidhi which is also separate. It is a beautiful temple with lot of sculputures and paintings. There is one small sannidhi for Lord Narasimha near the prakaram. One has to bend down to have darshan. The temple has big towers.Adjacent to the Koodal Azhar Temple, there is a famous temple for Lord Hayagriva Perumal. The Lord here is a Varaprasaddhi who bless his devotees with lot of knowledge.
