The Australian 1 cent coin was introduced in 1966 and was the least-valued Australian circulation coin until it was withdrawn from circulation in 1992.

The coins were then melted down to make bronze medals for the 2000 Summer Olympics [ [http://www.ramint.gov.au/press_releases/Archive/olympic_victory_medals_speech.cfm Press Release from Royal Australian Mint 7 June 2000] ] .

The reverse side of the coin featured the image of a Feathertail Glider.
