San Juan del Puerto, Florida

San Juan del Puerto was a Roman Catholic mission founded before 1587 on Fort George Island, near the mouth of the St. Johns River in what is now Jacksonville, Florida. At the time of the mission's founding Fort George Island was occupied by Timucuas under the chief Saturiwa. Guale refugees from the Georgia coast were settled at the mission after 1650. The mission was abandoned around 1702.
