Alkaliphiles are
microbes classified asextremophiles that thrive inalkaline environments with apH of 9 to 11 such as soda lakes andcarbonate -rich soils. To survive, alkaliphiles maintain a relatively low alkaline level of about 8pH inside their cells by constantly pumpinghydrogen ions (H+) in the form ofhydronium ions (H3O+) across theircell membrane s into theircytoplasm .Examples include:
