Novosil (Russian: Новоси́ль) is a town and the administrative center of Novosilsky District of Oryol Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Zusha River 70 kilometers (43 mi) east of Oryol. Population: 3,661 (2010 Census preliminary results);[1] 4,017 (2002 Census);[2] 4,198 (1989 Census).[3]

Novosil was first mentioned in 1155 as a fortress called Itil and was the seat of a branch of the Rurikid family in the Middle Ages. Novosil's town status was officially corroborated in 1777.
