Hamstead is an area of Birmingham, England, between Handsworth Wood and Great Barr, and adjacent to the Sandwell Valley area of West Bromwich. Historically it has its foundations as part of the Hamstead Colliery from the early to mid 20th Century with a lot of the housing have been built for the miners. Thus today it is still referred to as Hamstead Village, a term caught on also by Birmingham City University students who reside at the Hamstead Campus, because of the number of takeaways on the Old Walsall Road that runs past the train station. the 654 Bus is also known as the 'Hamstead Villager' as printed on the side of many of its buses, operated by Travel West Midlands.

*the 424 bus runs from Birmingham - Old Oscott via One Stop Shopping Centre (Birmingham City University City North Campus), Scott Arms running hourly until 6pm, Monday - Saturday. Buses are operated by Central Connect Buses.

It is served by Hamstead railway station on the Birmingham-Walsall Line, part of the former Grand Junction Railway, opened in 1837. Trains run half-hourly in both directions, from 0530 until 0000 seven days a week. Trains are Operated by London Midland Trains.
