Paula Korologos Cale (born June 2, 1970 in Great Falls, Virginia) is an American actress best known for her role as Joanie Hansen on the television series "Providence".

Early life

Born Paula Korologos in Great Falls, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC, she is Greek American and a practicing member of the Mormon faith. She is the youngest of three children, with a sister, Ann, and brother, Philip.

Her father, Tom C. Korologos, worked as a top Capitol Hill lobbyist; a Congressional liaison during the Nixon and Ford presidential administrations; and worked closely with President George W. Bush. From 2004 to 2007, he served as the US Ambassador to Belgium. Her mother, Joy, was a homemaker and chairwoman of the Fairfax County School Board, who died in 1997 from a brain cancer melanoma.

Cale attended Langley High School and interned in the Ronald Reagan-era White House. Following her graduation in 1988, she studied to be a teacher for one year at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, then transferred to the prestigious Goodman School of Theatre at DePaul University in Chicago, where she won a scholarship to study drama and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting 1993.

Career

Following her graduation from DePaul University, Cale originated the role of Suzanne in the Steppenwolf Theatre production of Steve Martin's "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" in Chicago and came to Los Angeles with the production in 1995, where Candice Bergen spotted her and later offered Cale the recurring role of McGovern, a reporter in "Murphy Brown".

Soon after, Cale was starring in two different comedies on two different networks simultaneously. She played a sassy waitress in "Local Heroes" and portrayed the neurotic wife of comedian Dave Chappelle in "Buddies".

She then went to New York to appear in numerous stage shows, appearing on Broadway in "The Night of the Iguana" and followed by playing her favorite role as Gilda Radner in Broadway's "Bunny, Bunny". When she returned to Los Angeles, she guest-starred in two episodes of NBC's "The Naked Truth" as Tea Leoni's sister and "Cybill" as Cybill Sheridan's long lost niece.

After a successful career as a television and Broadway actor, she first hesitated when asked to audition for the drama "Providence". Cale combined both comedic and dramatic elements in her character, Joanie, of an unwed mother.

In 2005, Cale was to co-star in a new ABC sitcom, "In the Game", before the show was canceled.

Personal life

From 1995 to 1999, she was married to actor Bennett Cale.

On July 29, 2006, she married Los Angeles screenwriter Michael Lisbe at Sopris Mountain Ranch in Basalt, Colorado.

Cale currently resides in Los Angeles, where she performs volunteer work for her church and also enjoys puttering in her flower garden, and watching sports. She has stated an interest in returning to teaching elementary school sometime in the future.
