Robert Sayle

Robert Sayle

Robert Sayle was a department store in Cambridge, England belonging to the John Lewis Partnership. The original Robert Sayle store opened in 1840 in St. Andrew's Street and continued to trade until 2004, when it moved to temporary premises in Burleigh Street. John Lewis continued to trade under the Robert Sayle name until 6 November 2007, when the temporary store was closed. It was replaced on 8 November 2007 by a branch of John Lewis at a new, larger building on the original site, which is part of the Grand Arcade shopping centre. [cite web

The John Lewis Partnership operated a small department store in Peterborough under the Robert Sayle name from 1940 to 1956, when it was destroyed by fire. Formerly known as Thomsons, the shop was renamed following acquisition by the Partnership. In 1982 a new store, John Lewis Peterborough, was opened as the anchor of Queensgate shopping centre.
