Magrahat Paschim (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Bengali: মগরাহাট পশ্চিম বিধানসভা কেন্দ্র) (earlier known as Magrahat West) is an assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Extent

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 142 Magrahat Paschim (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Magrahat I community development block and Netra gram panchayat of Diamond Harbour I community development block.[1]

Magrahat Paschim (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 20 Mathurapur (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]It was earlier part of Jadavpur (Lok Sabha constituency).[2]

1977-2006 Magrahat West

In the 2006 state assembly elections, Abul Hasnat of CPI(M) won the Magrahat West seat defeating his nearest rival Giasuddin Molla of Trinamool Congress. Noorar Rahaman of CPI(M) defeated Giasuddin Molla of Trinamool Congress in 2001. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Abul Basar Laskar of Congress defeated Anuradha Putatunda of CPI(M) in 1996. Anuradha Putatunda of CPI(M) defeated Abdul Basar Laskar of Congress in 1991. Abdus Shobhan Gazai of CPI(M) defeated Kironmoy Deb of Congress in 1987, Sudhendu Mundle of Congress in 1982 and 1977.[6]

1962-1972 Magrahat West

Sudhendu Mundle representing Congress won in 1972, and representing Bangla Congress won in 1971. Sachindranath Mondal of Bangla Congress won in 1969. J.Abedin of Bangla Congress won in 1967. Abdul Hashem of Congress won in 1962.[7]

1951-1957 Magrahat

Magrahat was a joint seat in 1957 and 1951. In both the elections Abdul Hashem and Ardhendu Sekhar Naskar, both of Congress, won the Magrahat seat.[7]
