Chirnside F.C.

Chirnside F.C. previously known as Chirnside United F.C. are an amateur football club which plays in the village of Chirnside in Berwickshire, Scotland. They play in the 'A league' of the Border Amateur league which is affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Football Association. Their home ground is Comrades Park.

History

The club was founded in 1890, they entered the Berwickshire Junior League in 1925.[1] In 1931 they entered the Border Amateur League but later that year they joined the East of Scotland League.[1] In 1935 they played in the Scottish Cup for the first time where they lost 7-1 at home to Forfar Athletic. Chirnside United reached the first round of the Scottish Cup nine times between 1935 and 1967 but never made it past the first round although they did take Elgin City and Brechin City to replays in 1936 and 1949 respectively.[1]

They played in the East of Scotland League until 1968 and again between 1976 and 1978.

Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman was honorary president of Chirnside United until his death in 1934.[1]
