Jeju Air is an airline based in Jeju, South Korea. It operates scheduled domestic services between Jeju and the South Korea mainland. Its main base is Jeju International Airport, with a hub at Gimpo International Airport, Seoul.cite news | title= Directory: World Airlines | work= Flight International | page= 97 | date= 2007-04-03]

In the summer of 2008 the airline will operate eight charter flights between the New Kitakyushu Airport and Incheon International Airport, with a view to establishing regular scheduled flights. (NHK Kitakyushu, May 1, 2008)

History

The airline was established in January 2005 and started operations on 5 June 2006. It is owned by the Aekyung Group (75%) and the Jeju Provincial Government (25%). In 2005 it had placed orders for 5 Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft (with options on 3 further aircraft), with a total contract value of $196 million if all options were taken up. On 11 July 2008, Jeju Air made it's first international flight Jeju - Hiroshima.

* Jeju - CheongjuFuture expansion plans include service to Daegu.

* Seoul (Incheon) - Kitakyushu "charter"
* Seoul (Incheon) - Kōchi "charter"

Incidents and accidents

*On 12 August 2007, at 9:37 local time, a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, operated by Jeju Air, skidded off the runway at Gimhae International Airport, Busan, injuring 6 people and damaging the aircraft, particularly the left propeller.
